- Chicago, IL: no location field for schools. It's in the extracted text.
This checks our sample text, read by one open-source parser from the PDF that Google Docs' File > Download > PDF produces. It isn't a score, and it doesn't tell you how Workday, Greenhouse or any other hiring system will read your own resume. Anyone can rerun it: the test repository has the PDF (SHA-256 d3b5b6b6e09d…), the expected values and the raw results. How we test
About this example
Lena's credits are the resume. They share one section, stage work first and screen work after, each newest first, with the theatre or medium in every line. Training follows, then a short list of skills she could demonstrate at an audition. There's no summary, which is normal for acting.
How to write a acting resume
Credits first, grouped by medium
Casting directors look at what you've played and where. List the production, your role and the theatre, director or production company. Keep stage and screen work in separate groups, newest first within each.
Training matters early on
Degrees, conservatory programs and ongoing classes tell a casting director how you work. List the techniques you studied.
Make special skills specific
Accents, languages, singing range, dance styles and stage combat can get you a callback. Only list what you could do in an audition tomorrow, and for stage combat give the SAFD weapons and the year you passed, since the certificates expire.
About the section names in this sample
Most acting resumes have separate "Theatre", "Film" and "Training" sections. The open-source parser we test with only reads a section whose title includes a word like "projects" or "education", and only the first one of each kind, so this sample keeps stage and screen credits in one section. If your resume only goes to casting directors, the usual separate sections are fine.
Cover letter lines for a acting role
An opening and a closing written for the person in this example. Swap in your own numbers and the role you're applying for. Every template comes with a matching cover letter for the middle.
I'm submitting for the role of Emily in your spring production of Our Town. I played the role last season in a 32-performance run at Northlake Repertory Theatre and would love to bring it to your stage.
My headshot and reel are attached, and I'm available for auditions any weekday. Thank you for your consideration.
Common mistakes on acting resumes
- Height, weight or age range in the body. Put physical details in your casting profile or a short line under your name if your market expects it. Never your age.
- Padding with roles you can't explain. If a director asks about a credit, you should be able to talk about it. Cut anything you can't.
- A resume that doesn't match the headshot size. In-person submissions staple the resume to an 8 by 10 headshot. Trim it to fit, or keep a separate version for that.

The writing advice draws on the tasks and tools listed for Actors (O*NET-SOC 27-2011.00) in the O*NET 31.0 Database by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, used under the CC BY 4.0 license.
