It isn't a score, and it doesn't tell you how Workday, Greenhouse or any other hiring system will read your own resume. About this example

Lauren's summary gives the size of the workforces she has supported and her certification. Her bullets show hiring numbers and process changes rather than general people skills. Systems and certifications sit at the bottom for quick checking.

How to write a hr resume

Put numbers on hiring

HR specialists recruit, screen and hire. Roles filled per year, time to fill and offer acceptance rates make that work measurable.

Show policy and employee relations work

Explaining policies, handling complaints and advising on leave and discipline is a large part of the job. One bullet shows you can be trusted with it.

Name your HR systems

Workday, BambooHR, ADP and Greenhouse appear in most postings. List the ones you know.

List certifications clearly

SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR and SPHR should be easy to spot, in the summary or skills.

Cover letter lines for a hr role

An opening and a closing written for the person in this example. Swap in your own numbers and the role you're applying for. Every template comes with a matching cover letter for the middle.

Opening paragraph
I'm applying for the HR Business Partner role. At Lakeport Components I handle hiring for about 90 roles a year across two plants, and I rebuilt onboarding so that first-90-day turnover fell from 24% to 13%.
Closing paragraph
I'd be glad to talk about how I work with plant supervisors and what I'd bring to your team. Thank you for your consideration.

Common mistakes on hr resumes

  • Confidential details. Never describe a specific employee case in a way that could identify someone.
  • "People person" language. HR resumes often lean on soft skills. Show them through results instead.
  • Out-of-date certifications. Only list certifications that are current. Recruiters in HR will check.
