About this example
Tyler's summary says what he sells, to whom and where. Quota attainment is in the first bullet of his current job, because that's what a sales manager reads first. The college server job stays as one line: it shows he has always worked with customers.
How to write a sales resume
Show quota results where you have them
Sales managers want to know if you hit your number. Give percent of quota and the year wherever you had one. For roles without a clear quota, like early inside sales, show a ranking or meetings booked instead.
Show both new and existing business
Finding new customers and growing current ones are different skills. Include a bullet for each.
Name the territory and product
"Five-state territory selling packaging supplies to distributors" tells a hiring manager whether your experience transfers.
List your CRM
Salesforce and HubSpot are in most job postings. Say you keep your pipeline and forecast in one.
Cover letter lines for a sales role
An opening and a closing written for the person in this example. Swap in your own numbers and the role you're applying for. Every template comes with a matching cover letter for the middle.
I'm applying for the Regional Account Manager role. Over the past four years I grew a five-state territory from $3.1M to $4.6M in annual revenue and finished 2025 at 118% of quota.
I'd be glad to share how I opened 22 new distributor accounts and what I'd do in your territory. Thank you for your time.
Common mistakes on sales resumes
- Revenue without context. "Sold $2M" means little without the quota or the territory size. Give the comparison.
- Personality instead of results. "Driven, competitive, people person" is in every sales resume. Let the numbers make that case.
- Skipping the bad year. If one year was below quota, you can leave the percentage off for that year. Don't invent one.
Templates that suit sales resumes
