It isn't a score, and it doesn't tell you how Workday, Greenhouse or any other hiring system will read your own resume. About this example
David's summary carries the facts recruiters filter on: PMP, years and project size. Each project bullet includes scope and whether it landed on time and on budget. The earlier analyst job is one line, showing where his operations knowledge comes from.
How to write a project manager resume
Scope, budget, team, outcome
Project managers plan, schedule and track work against deadlines. Your main project bullets should say how big the project was and whether it landed on time and on budget. Ongoing work like risk reviews or coaching can be shown with concrete facts instead.
Show stakeholder work
Running risk reviews and reporting to executives shows you can manage people you don't supervise.
Mention method and tools
Agile, waterfall, Jira, Smartsheet and MS Project are common search terms. List the ones you use.
Put PMP where it's seen
PMP and Scrum certifications belong in the summary and in skills.
Cover letter lines for a project manager role
An opening and a closing written for the person in this example. Swap in your own numbers and the role you're applying for. Every template comes with a matching cover letter for the middle.
I'm applying for the Senior IT Project Manager role. At Pecanwood Health System I led a $4M scheduling system rollout across 14 clinics with a 22-person team, and it went live on schedule and 6% under budget.
I'd be glad to talk about how I'd run your upcoming system migration. Thank you for your consideration.
Common mistakes on project manager resumes
- "Managed projects" with no size. Give the budget, team size or number of sites. Otherwise every project sounds the same.
- Taking credit for the whole team's work. Say what you did: planned, negotiated, escalated, reported. Hiring managers ask about it in interviews.
- Listing every methodology. Name the ones you've actually used on real projects.
