About this example
Aaliyah has no internship yet, so her education, a campus job and a bakery job carry the page. Each job has one line that relates to marketing. Club work and a class project are under projects, where they read as real experience rather than filler.
How to write a internship resume
Education first, with coursework
Without much work history, your degree, GPA and relevant classes are the strongest part of the page.
Every job counts
Campus jobs, retail and food service show you show up and handle people. Pick the one thing in each that relates to the internship.
Turn club roles into results
A club role with a number, like event turnout or followers, reads like real work experience.
Show research skills for marketing roles
Marketing internships involve surveys, competitor research and reports. A class project where you collected and presented data fits well.
Cover letter lines for a internship role
An opening and a closing written for the person in this example. Swap in your own numbers and the role you're applying for. Every template comes with a matching cover letter for the middle.
I'm applying for the Marketing Intern position for this summer. I'm a junior studying marketing at Peachtree State, and as social media chair for our Marketing Association I helped grow event turnout from about 40 students to 90.
I'd love to learn how your team plans campaigns, and I'm available to start in May. Thank you for your time.
Common mistakes on internship resumes
- An objective statement. "Seeking an internship to gain experience" is true of every applicant. Use the space for a project or a job instead.
- High school activities in college. After your first year of college, drop high school unless it's directly relevant or very distinctive.
- Hiding a low GPA by leaving it vague. If your GPA is below 3.0, leave it off rather than writing something unclear. Some employers will ask.
Templates that suit internship resumes
